Founding of the Académie des Sciences (Academy of Sciences)
The Académie des Sciences is the heir to the scholarly circles of the 17th century, who gravitated around a patron or a scholar. It owes its origin to Colbert’s plan to create a general academy. To this end, on December 22, 1666, Colbert assembled a small group of scholars to meet in the king’s library.
